Registered Massage TherapyAre you suffering from muscle discomfort from everyday work related stresses, muscle overuse, repetitive strain or from a recent or old injury? If you are and want to find relief, Massage Therapy may provide you with an alternative health care option to find relief. What is Massage Therapy?Massage Therapy combines a variety of hands-on techniques which involve moving the soft tissues of the body to gain a positive effect on the circulatory, nervous and muscular systems of the body. Massage Therapy can help to promote relaxation by reducing stress related symptoms such as headaches, neck, shoulder and back pain. Massage Therapy can also be used following injury or trauma to reduce pain and inflammation to assist in the natural healing processes of the body. What to Expect from Massage TherapyOn your first visit you will be asked about your past and present medical history and then a brief physical assessment will be performed to determine the most appropriate treatment plan. Your Massage Therapist will help you understand the reasons for your discomfort and how you can work to help alleviate your symptoms. You may need to partially undress for the therapy, but the Massage Therapist will drape you with a sheet so that only the portion of your body required to be treated will be exposed. In most cases your body has the capacity to heal itself and with the assistance of your Massage Therapist, you can achieve new wellness. To compliment the effect of your treatment, other therapies may be used which include the use of hot or cold, as well as recommendations for remedial and postural exercises. Who is a Qualified Registered Massage Therapist?Education and examination of a Registered Massage Therapist is regulated by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. Students complete practical instruction, as well as studies in the field of anatomy, physiology and pathology. Graduation as a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) is a pre-requisite to becoming licensed and registered under the Regulated Health Practitioner’s Act (RHPA). How Can Massage Therapy Help You?Many of today’s health problems can arise from stress, either at the work place or through physical activity. Because stress upsets the delicate balance of your body’s functions, regaining this balance sometimes requires a holistic approach. Massage Therapy not only treats the part of your body which is found to be at the origin of the problem, but also assists your whole body by normalizing your circulatory, muscular and nervous systems and their interdependent functioning. Massage Therapy is a safe and effective means of treatment for both stress management as well as helping to relieve specific problems, including the following:
Massage therapy can benefit people of all ages and conditions. It promotes relaxation, soft tissue healing and an overall feeling of wellness.
